Richard Samuel Attenborough, Baron Attenborough, CBE was a British actor who portrayed John Hammond in Jurassic Park. Appearing in dozens of films – from the likes of Brighton Rock to The Great Escape – since the 1940s, he moved primarily into directing after the late 1970s, winning eight Oscars for Gandhi, but was persuaded to take the role in Jurassic Park by Steven Spielberg after a fourteen-year hiatus from acting. Often known as 'Dickie', he was made a Knight Bachelor in 1976 and made Baron Attenborough of Richmond-upon-Thames in 1993. He is the elder brother of renown naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. Attenborough died on 24th August 2014, five days prior to his 91st birthday.

Films[]
Richard Attenborough portrayed John Hammond in the 1993 film Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Steven Spielberg had previously wanted to cast Attenborough in the role of "Uncle Tootles" in the film Hook, who was unavailable, as he was directing the film Chaplin at the time.
Because this film had popularised dinosaurs the surnames of its main actors were used to make the species name of the Tianchisaurus genus. The species name has become nedegoapeferima, in which the part a (after nedego) is the first letter of Attenborough.
The voice of Richard Attenborough was used posthumously in a trailer for Jurassic World. Using sound editing Hammond's famous catchphrase "welcome to Jurassic Park" was changed into "welcome to Jurassic World".

Richard Attenborough provided voices for the video games Chaos Island: The Lost World and Jurassic Park: Trespasser.
Death[]
Richard Attenborough died of natural causes during August of 2014 when the shooting of Jurassic World was in progress. Director Colin Trevorrow posted a picture of John Hammond's memorial statue with the caption "In Memoriam."
Jurassic World's official Twitter account posted a picture of John Hammond with the birth and death years of Attenborough. The text said: "In remembrance of Richard Attenborough. His life found a way to touch the hearts, minds & imaginations of the world."
