SPAS-12 stock folded

The SPAS-12 is a multi-role convertible 12-gauge shotgun designed for special military and police operations. The weapon is "convertible" in that it can be fired in either a manual, pump-action mode, as well as a semiautomatic fashion. While designed around the standard pattern 12-gauge shot and slug shells, the weapon is also capable of handling special rounds, such as liquid irritants and low-velocity less-lethal rounds.

Despite its brute power, the SPAS-12 had a serious limitation in its engagement range. Like all shotguns, the weapon became markedly less capable beyond short range, and very difficult to employ at long ranges.

It went out of production due to high production costs, but it still appears in various forms of media such as movies, TV, video games, and more.

Story[]

Robert Muldoon

Robert Muldoon w/ preferred SPAS 12

The SPAS-12 was one of the guns used by Jurassic Park Security. The ones used were the variant that had a folding stock.[1] These shotguns were loaded with either solid slug ammunition or sub-caliber penetrators.[2] It was the favored weapon of Jurassic Park's game warden Robert Muldoon and he used during the Velociraptor Incident and the Jurassic Park Incident. Dr. Alan Grant used one in the same incident as well to defend against The Big One and her Velociraptor pack.[1]

Several SPAS-12, one outfitted with an under barrel flashlight, were carried by InGen Hunters in Isla Sorna Incident.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

  • When Grant shoots at the raptors with the shotgun until it jams, it appears to be an extractor malfunction, resulting in a shell in the breech holding back a loaded round from being chambered, commonly known as a 'stovepipe'. Such a jam is relatively straightforward to clear in reality, however it's likely Grant might not be familiar enough with firearms to know how to do so.
