Release From Hatchery[]
“Here's what concerns me about your latest dinosaur, the Allosaurus. That it's an apex predator? No. That it could bring down animals twice its size? Also no. Nope. Instead, my problem with the Allosaurus is that, unlike the T. rex, or even the Velociraptor, the Allosaurus seems... optimized. It's chaos locking in on a solution. Creating efficiencies. And that makes me nervous.”
- - Dr. Ian Malcolm
Jurassic Tour[]
- "Allosaurus' ability to open her jaws extremely wide means she lacks bite force. This doesn't stop her from being an aggressive, combatative creature."
- "An unusual abundance of fossil specimens means that the Allosaurus is one of the most commonly studied dinosaurs."

Description[]
- Allosaurus was a large therapod dinosaur. An unusually large number of fossil specimens makes the Allosaurus one of the best studied dinosaurs of all time. Its name means 'different lizard'.
- Notable features of the Allosaurus are a very strong skull and the ability to open its jaws extremely wide. It had a relatively weak bite force, unlike the largest theropod
Discovery[]
- The first incomplete Allosaurus fossils were discovered in 1869. Major operations in the 1960s then uncovered over 45 specimensat the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry.
Paleoecology[]
- The Morrison Formation is a semiarid flat floodplain. Life would have been supported by river-lining ferns and conifer forests throughout both wet and dry seasons. Allosaurus existed at the same time as other large therapods, each appearing to fill a different ecological niche.
