The trademark Jurassic Park Main Gates

The Jurassic Park Gate is a famous trademark of the Jurassic Park Series. It appeared in the first movie when the tour vehicles entered the Park. After this movie it became an icon of the franchise, and appeared in many other JP related media.

Basic Operation[]

In the original film, the gate as used is automatically controlled as part of the Jurassic Park Tour Program, noted by how it lines up with the audio tour, opening just after Richard Kiley says "Welcome to Jurassic Park".

The gate had a maintenance panel on the left pillar which included among other things, a manual override lever, which unlocked the gate and allowed a vehicle to push them open with some force. Dennis Nedry used this override system to open the gates after he had caused a power failure in order to get to the East Dock.

Appearances in Films and Games[]

Jurassic Park film[]

Gate Entrance (2)

When the Safari Jeeps enter Jurassic Park, they ride through these immense gates. They are called Main Gates in the Jurassic Park Film Script, and are described as: two enormous, primitive gates, torches blazing on either side. Ian Malcolm mocks about their height saying, "What have they got in there? King Kong?"

Dennis Nedry later opens the gate to get the embryos to his contact on the boat at the East Dock.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park[]

The amphitheater of Jurassic Park: San Diego has similar gates at its entrance. However, incandescent lighting is used instead of torches.

It is elevated and placed over the track of the Jurassic World Monorail so that trains departing the ferry dock pass through it to enter the park proper.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom[]

The Main Gate was seen destroyed right before the eruption. A small model of the original gate was seen in Lockwood Manor.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous[]

The Main Gate for Camp Cretaceous resembles the original gate, except that it was designed to look more like an ancient construct. Additionally, it had the Camp Cretaceous logo emblazoned on the wooden doors, surrounded by four fossil-related drawings. It was first seen in the first episode of the series, "Camp Cretaceous".
