Jurassic Park III (Hasbro)

The Jurassic Park III toy line, made by Hasbro, is based on the 2001 movie Jurassic Park III . Below are reviews/comments for each figures of the toy line.

Humans

Dr. Alan Grant

This is an unacceptable figure with an awkward weapon, a claw that grabs hatchlings or fends off the jaws of dinosaurs. Grant has ripped pants, probably from an attack from the hatchling, and he bares a striking resemblance to the then incumbent James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan. He comes with the hatchling, a Velociraptor, which is Grant's favourite dinosaur. Ready to bite or claw at someone it has a similar paint job to the adult version. He was repainted once for the JPD 2 and twice for the 2k9 toyline. His rating is a 6 out of 10, it can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Dr. Alan Grant with Compies

This figure has a white shirt, brown vest and blue jeans. He stands in a fairly neutral pose and comes with Dino tame flamethrower weapon. Two Compsognathus is also included, green in colour and has different posses. One is in an attack pose and the other more neutral, both are oversized compared to the Alan Grant figure.

Billy Brennan

This figure really resembles Billy Brennan, he has a hang glider which can be attached to his back. Billy even has an extra digit arm which is cool. His hatchling is a Pteranodon inspired by the adults in the movie. The hatchling is cool. This is funny because Billy was nearly killed by one of these monsters. Billy along with his hatchling was repainted for the JPD2 and the 2K9 toyline. His rating is a 7 out of 10, he is one of the better figures of this line and is extremely common.

Paul Kirby

This figure stands in a sort of walking mode. He is dressed in a brown shirt, dark ripped pants, a pair of binocular hanging over the shirt, red hair but unlike the movie he has no moustache. He comes with a net launcher and blue-white Stegosaurus hatchling.

Amanda Kirby

This figure does not look like Tea Leoni, and looks more like Ellie Sattler. She has a lame weapon - a claw-like projectile that can only knock down hatchlings. She does have tears on her pants. The hatchling she comes with is a Spinosaurus with a nice movie accurate paint job. It looks like it is going to slash or bite at something, so maybe that's why Amanda has tears on her clothes. This set's rating is a 6 out of 10. This set is disappointing - the hatchling is the best part of this set, luckily the set is common and can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Eric Kirby

This is small figure is dressed in a red t-shirt, blue shorts, holding a flashlight in right hand. A backpack i sculpted on the back. He has no other weapon/equipment. An adult Pteranodon comes with him. It can hold Eric with its claws but the grip is poor.

Military General

This figure looks like a GI Joe figure, except without the matching articulation. He has claw marks on his shirt, claw marks from a Velociraptor. The general's weapon is disappointing and cheap - a missile that looks like an oar. It can be put in a gun, the missile can be pressed and shot, hitting small dinosaurs that have trouble standing down. The T.rex hatchling is cool, very movie accurate, the Tyrannosaurus will be repainted dozens of times and the general was repainted and reused for the JPD 2 and 3 toy lines and twice for the 2K9 toy line, luckily it is common. His rating is an 8 out of 10.

Military Diver

This is a nice set, the diver has some rips in his clothes, probably from the Spinosaurus hatchling he comes with. The Spinosaurus is inspired by the one seen in the movie. He looks like he is ready to bite or claw at something. The diver's weapon is rather cheap, it is a traunk gun. A missile can be put in. Pushing the missile makes it hit hatchlings with enough force to knock them over. This set will be repainted for the jpd2 toyline and twice for the 2k9 toy line, luckily it is extremely common.

This appears to not be known, but there is a T-Rex flashlight from JP3, with the light being in the T.rex's opened mouth. It is not very common.

Dinosaurs

Tyrannosaurus rex

This figure is fairly movie accurate with its paint job. This is the smaller version to the ultra Tyrannosaurus rex. Pressing the button under its neck makes it give out an angry roar, it also has a button on its dino damage which it makes a sound as if it were in pain. It was later repainted for the JP dinosaurs 2 and 3 toy lines and also for the camoextreme toy line. It is pretty hard and could break glass, so it is dangerous to play with for children under 3. Its rating is a 5 out of 10, found loose it will cost you 7-9 bucks mip will cost you 12-15 bucks.

Brachiosaurus

This figure is the first Jurassic Park Brachiosaurus toy. It has a dull but original paint job. Pulling his leg back makes his tail whip, knocking down human figures and also unleashing a sound that sounds like an angry Brachiosaurus. It also has some nasty dino damage, showing a mix of muscle and bone. A sound can be heard, it is the same sound as the Brachiosaurus in Jurassic Park when it sneezed on Lex Murphy. It will be repainted for the JP dinosaurs 2 toy line. Its rating is a 6 out of 10, it is disappointing and can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Pteranodon

This is another cool figure, it has a nice paint job, very movie accurate. It has the same attack feature as tapejara - beak strike attack. It does the same thing, also unleashing the same sounds as tapejara. It also has dino damage in the same place - the back. The damage shows muscle and back bone. He will be possibly be repainted for the cameo extreme toyline and then be denied a release. Its rating is a 7 out of 10, it is very common and can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Alpha Velociraptor

This figure is fairly movie accurate with its paint job. It is size accurate when compared to human figures. Pressing a button makes it slash, knocking human figures down, also unleashing a sound. The sound is the same awesome famous attack screech, it is very movie accurate. This figure also has dino damage, it is in an odd place - the tail. The damage shows some muscle and tail bone. Pressing the bone it makes another sound. The sound wasn't heard in any of the movies but sounds like a raptor. Its good enough. The sculpt will be repainted for the camoextreme toyline jpd 2 and 3 and the jp2k9 toyline. Its rating is a 7 out of 10 it is one of hasbro's better figures and luckily it is common and can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Spinosaurus

This figure is the mascot of this toy line, having a nice movie accurate paint job. It is ridiculously small. Pressing the beast's neck makes it clutch hatchling and human figures, and also unleashes a sound that sounds like the JP3 Spinosaurus. Very movie accurate, he also has dino damage showing muscle and bone. Pressing a button unleashes another sound, it sounds like he is hissing. Its rating is a 6 out of 10, this is a disappointing figure but if you really want one it is common and can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Triceratops

This herbivore is one of the only of this toyline. It has a cool paint job with poseable limbs. Pulling its head back makes it headbutt, knocking human figures down, and also unleashing a sound that sounds like it is angry, very much like an angry Triceratops. It also has some nasty dino damage showing muscle and bone. Pressing the bone unleashes another sound. It sounds more like a Brachiosaurus. The figure will be repainted for the JP2 and 2k9 toylines. Its rating is a 6 out of 10 - this figure is disappointing but luckily is very common and can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Pack Raptor

The Pack Raptor is 1 of 2 RE-AK ATAK Velociraptors released for the Jurassic Park /// toy line. This figure seems to resemble the male sornaensis Raptors from the film. A repaint was planned for the Camo-Extreme wave 2 but was ultimately cancelled with the rest of wave 2.

Aqua Spinosaurus

This figure looks okay with a scar running through his eye and spine. Pressing his spine makes him slash, knocking down human figures and also unleashing a roar identical to the other Spinosaurus of this line. He has nasty dino damage showing muscle and bone. Pressing a button unleashes another sound. It will be repainted and then cancelled for the camoextreme toyline. The paint job is next to movie accurate, and its rating is a 6 out of 10. Luckily this figure is common and can be found at your local flea market or on eBay.

Tapejara

This is one of the better figures of this toyline, with a cool paint job and attack feature which is a striking beak, which can grab human figures and knock small dino figures down, it also unleashes a sound very Pteranodon like. It also has devilish-looking talons. It also has dino damage showing muscle and bone, also unleashing a sound like a bird. It will not be repainted. Its rating is an 8 out of 10, luckily it is common. It is one of the better products of Hasbro. It isn't in the JP3 them.

Alpha Pteranodon

This figure is fairly movie accurate with its paint job. This figure has wing flapping action by pressing a button on its back(like TWL Pteranadon), it makes a flapping noise. The two other sounds are the same as the smaller Pteranodon of this toyline. This creature has a biting action by pressing the crest it can grasp human figures. It also features some nasty dino damage on its back showing muscle and bone. It will possibly repainted for the cameo extreme toy line and then be cancelled and after that twice more for the jpd2 and 3 toy lines. Its rating is a 9 out of 10, it is the best Pteranodon out of all the toy lines and it is an awesome figure. It looks like Hasbro finally did something right for once. Unfortunately it is not the most common figure. and can be found on eBay loose for 20 to 30 dollars and mip 45 to 60 but if you see one don't hesitate

Ultra Tyrannosaurus rex

This figure is movie accurate with its paint job. Pulling the arm down makes it roar. It doesn't sound that much like a T-rex and it looks like the other T.rex but bigger. It can also bite, clamping human and small dinosaur figures. It also has nasty dino damage from a Spinosaurus attack. The damage shows some muscle and bone. Pressing a button makes it unleash another roar. It will be repainted for the cameo extreme toyline and jpd 2 and 3 toy lines. Its rating is a 10 out of 10. It is one of hasbro's better figures, unfortunately it is not the most common dinosaur figure. and can be found on eBay loose for 20 to 30 bucks or mib 45 to 60 bucks but if you see one get it is a decent figure

Animatronic Spinosaurus

This figure is the best of this toyline also being the mascot. The sculpt is very movie accurate. Pressing a button on the neck under the skin makes it roar, sounding fairly movie accurate. The head also tilts down. The same feature can be activated by pressing the tail and the side, unfortunately the system gets broken way to easily. The figure has a biting action which can clamp human and small dinosaur figures and thrash them around by pulling the tail. The figure comes with dino damage, it is the same from the Tyrannosaurus as seen on the movie. On the neck there is muscle showing and on the side there is muscle and bone showing, it is a nasty wound. Its arms are poseable. The sculpt will not be repainted again. Its rating is an 8 out of 10, its a shame about the electronics though it can be found on eBay. loose and perfect working order for 60 to 100 bucks or mib 120 to 300 bucks but if you see one get it just don't play to rough with the animatronics.

Dino Tracking Set

This is a unique set of repaints that were only exclusive to Wal-mart. There is a repaint of the cyclops raptor, now back in an awesome JP3 raptor-like paint job. It still has a thrashing action and the scarring. Restraints to keep the raptor from slashing the Triceratops is back, with a JP3 Triceratops paint job. Pulling its leg back makes it headbutt, knocking down human figures. It has limb restraints to go on the legs with tracking tags as well. The tracker is a repaint of Harpoon Harrison. He has two nets - a bola launcher which can knock the raptor down, and 2 new green guns that fire missiles. The missiles can knock down small dino figures. This set's rating is a 7 out of 10. It is close to being rare.

Dilophosaurus

Criticism of JP3 toys

Many fans of the original series were disappointed with the JP/// toyline; the figures were under-scaled, the dinosaurs unproperly sized, the lack of usable vehicles, etc. The fixed-position characters also raised problems with playability.
