The chapter Puntarenas is mainly about solving the puzzle of why Tina Bowman was bitten by the unknown lizard. It also introduces Dr. Martin Guitierrez, an American professor from Yale who is an exotic lizard expert.

Plot[]

Doctor Cruz, a Costa Rican physician at the Clinica Santa Maria in Puntarenas, reduces swelling in Tina's arm and neck. The girl had said she had been bitten by a green lizard, with brown stripes, that walks on its hind legs.

Cruz then has Dr. Martin Guitierrez speak with the Bowmans and conclude that the American child was bitten by a common Basiliscus amoratus. Samples of the lizard's saliva were then forwarded to the University lab in San José for testing. Bowman, Christina, L. was discharged the following morning.
