The t.rex was an important dinosaur in the Jurassic Park and The Lost World books. Now they just add t.rex because it was in the first two movies. It should be okay to kill off a t.rex in Jurassic Park 3 because it doesn't have to be the star in every movie. T.rex has become so ridiculously popular people think that it could kill most dinosaurs(there are some people that think it could kill a brachiosaur). I think in one of the next JP sequals they should do something similar to JP3 where t.rex should get a cameo, but another dinosaur should be the star of the movie. T.rex has become a very overrated dinosaur now.
It's okay to kill it off, certainly. That isn't what bothers me. What bothers me is that they did it in a manner that disregarded how much the T.rex meant to fans, and used it as a throwaway action scene to try to raise the stakes. I was perfectly fine that in JW they didn't show the T.rex in the trailers for more than a brief second, and was pleasantly surprised when it appeared in the last 10 minutes. While being an icon franchise, the JP franchise can go on without a T.rex. But they can eliminate rexes from the franchise without taking a steaming dump on T.rex's legacy.
